Hey legend, I’m Lachie. I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes over 12 years ago, and it’s been one hell of a ride.
There’ve been tough moments, but I’ve learned how to take control of my blood sugars, build a strong body, but most importantly live life on my terms.
Fitness has always been a big part of who I am. I’ve competed in bodybuilding, smashed heavy lifts in the gym, run half marathons and I love continuing to prove that Type 1 doesn’t have to hold you back from anything.
Outside of fitness, I’m big on good food, getting outdoors and living low-tox where I can. I believe in keeping things simple, building a strong foundation, and doing the basics well and I believe these lifestyle adjustments translates to our ability to manage our diabetes.
Over the years I’ve worked hard to take control of my diabetes, not just so I can live well with diabetes, but so I can thrive. Now I’m passionate about helping other Type 1s feel strong, capable, and confident in their bodies. That’s why I started the 1UP Method to support more people living with this condition, especially those who feel like diabetes is holding them back.

When Lachie joined Type 1-Up, he was 4 months post-ankle surgery. He knew the basics and "ate well" - but with limited movement, the scale wasn't budging. In the 3 months I had the pleasure of working with my man Lachlan, he was able to make huge strides with his diabetes management and body composition.
Lachie leveled up in every aspect. His mindset. His consistency. His diabetes management. His general health. And before finishing up inside the program he’d recently achieved his first 90% average time in range WEEK (yes, not day… WEEK!) A great bloke, with a great work ethic and the greatest name out there.
Lost 6.6kg, ran a half marathon, and dropped his HbA1c from 7.3 to 6.4, without a fat loss phase or cutting carbs!

When Mikey joined the program, he was stuck in a cycle of frustration. He’d push for a 6km run, feel like it was a one-off win, then fall back into old habits when progress stalled. His blood sugars were creeping up, and binge eating often followed the “stuff it” mindset. But once we had that first call, everything shifted. In the 5 months we’ve worked together, Mikey’s completely turned things around. He’s lost 6.6kg, crushed a half marathon faster than his goal pace, and dropped his HbA1c from 7.3 to 6.4. More importantly, his confidence, consistency, and focus are on a whole new level. The progress in his fitness and diabetes management has been massive, and this is just the beginning.
